DESTROY AND GET DESTROYED
“Abstain from harming others for this is your charity towards yourself.”
Prophet Muhammad (s)
(Bihar Al-Anwar 75)
Prophet Muhammad (s)
(Bihar Al-Anwar 75)
Imam al-Sadiq (a) said, ‘A man who keeps his hand from harming people is keeping one hand from [harming] them, whilst they would keep many hands from [harming] him [as a result].’[al-Khisal, p. 17, no. 60]
The universe is a gigantic blob of pure light, full of love and positivity. If you harm someone whilst being within its premises, you have infringed the default direction of life’s flow. Nature forgives no one, it takes your negative act as a declaration of war and this grand crystal clear mirror reflects your deeds on you resulting in your loss. Preventing yourself from purposely hurting others is, in fact, preventing yourself from universal trouble.
Imam al-Sadiq (a) said, ‘Allah, Mighty and Exalted, said, ‘Let a man who harms a believing servant of Mine expect a war waged by Me’.’[al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 350, no. 1]
The Prophet (s) said, ‘He who harms a believer is as if he has harmed me.’[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 68, p. 72, no. 40]
Let alone causing substantial distress, a mere glare is intolerable in the eyes of the Creator.
The Prophet (s) said, ‘He who looks at a believer with a look that scares him, Allah, Most High, will scare him on the Day when no shade will avail except His Shade.’[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 75, p. 150, no. 13]
The very first thing that manifests in the outcome of hurting a soul is a lack of abundance in the physical world, something one can readily witness while living in this realm of existence. For example, sudden financial strain, having health problems out of the blue, etc, so they can undoubtedly listen to the voice of their conscience and try to mend what has been broken. However, this surely doesn’t mean that these struggles are an indication of one’s past mistakes.
Persisting to be sensitive towards the needs and well-being of your surroundings is the scale of being best amongst all the creation.
Imam al-Sadiq (a) said, ‘By Allah, the righteous have won indeed! Do you know who they are? They are the ones who do not even harm the dust.’[Tafsir al-Qummi, v. 2, p. 146]
